Blood Red Road (Dust Lands, #1)Blood Red Road
by
Saba has spent her whole life in Silverlake, a dried-up wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms. The Wrecker civilization has long been destroyed, leaving only landfills for Saba and her family to scavenge from. That's fine by her, as long as her beloved twin brother Lugh is around. But when four cloaked horsemen capture Lugh, Saba's world is shattered, and she embarks on a quest to get him back.

Suddenly thrown into the lawless, ugly reality of the outside world, Saba discovers she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. Teamed up with a handsome daredevil named Jack and a gang of girl revolutionaries called the Free Hawks, Saba's unrelenting search for Lugh stages a showdown that will change the course of her own civilization

Blood Red Road has a searing pace, a poetic writing style, and an epic love story, making Moira Young is one of the most exciting new voices in teen fiction.

description

“There can be beauty anywhere. Even here. An if it ain't there, you can make it yerself.”
Blood Red Road is the definition of a unique distopian book that many of us are struggling to find. With an amazing heroine who sticks to her morals, the story tends to bring together the tragedy of post-apocalyptic world while adding the horror of the Wild West to the mix.

Saba is the type of main character where so many others tend to fail. She doesn't try to push it in your face that she is a bad ass female who can proof that women are as good as men. No. She sticks to her beliefs and her goal that she set in mind. Saving her brother and staying alive.

YA books tend to focus on the "awkwardness" of teens. Their imperfection, instability with the family, and the struggle to make friends. While still having those elements in the story,Blood Red Road presents them as a part of the adventure. You don't hear Saba whine about not liking people but eventually she has amazing friends who she did not trust. This is what this book represents: the real feelings and journey while still having thatSci-FI fix that we all crave once in awhile.

Audiobook Note: Incredible performance by Heather Lind!Blood Red Road has a very interesting dialect that could be a bit confusing while reading a hard copy. Audiobook gives the reader a chance to actually experience the conversations and feel like they have been transformed into that Wild West dystopia world.
